(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), as part of its support for ongoing COVID-19 efforts, has commenced the distribution of medical equipment and relief materials to the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State.
At the takeoff of the distribution at Iwhrekeka Community, Ughelli South Council Area, the Acting Managing Director of NDDC, Professor Daniel Pondei, who was represented by the Delta State Director of the Commission, Mr Gochua Okejoto, said that the exercise was informed by the negative effects of the pandemic on the lives and livelihoods of indigenes of the Niger Delta region.
While disclosing that the Commission had invested funds to support the COVID-19 war efforts under its Emergency Support for Health and Social Programme, in response to President Muhammadu Buhari order, Pondei appreciated the Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa-led administration for putting machinery in place to ensure the proper distribution of the donated items.
According to Pondei, the medical supplies donated include, special diagnostic and critical care equipment such as ventilators, adding that the equipment would be distributed to the Central Hospital, Warri, Central Hospital, Ughelli and the Teaching Hospital, Oghara.
The Delta State Commissioner for Special Duties, Mr Mofe Pirah, represented by Mr Emmanuel Amiwero, thanked NDDC for complementing the efforts of the state government at mitigating the spread and the negative impact of the Corona Virus pandemic on Deltans.
