Buhari’s Security Architecture Can’t Address Current Challenges – Obasanjo

By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – According to former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, the country’s security architecture is in dire need of serious restructuring, for the safety of the lives and property of Nigerians to be fully guaranteed.

Obasanjo made this declaration while making his remarks on Friday, June 26, 2020, at the 2020 edition of the Sobo Sowemimo Annual Lecture, titled, “COVID-19 and the Nigeria security issues: The way forward”, put together by Abeokuta Club.

According to Obasanjo, who intoned that the destiny of Nigerians was in their own hands, as they could not rely on the porous security system presently in place, there was a dire need to reform and restructure the security architecture of the country, with structure and arrangement devolving more security responsibility on the community, local and state authorities.

The former president frowned at the tendency of some writers on the security situation in the north to rejoice over the escalating security situation in the north, saying that insecurity should be the collective concern of all Nigerians who should work in concert in advocating for the devolution of the Country’s security architecture.
