#Coronavirus: 5,771 Residents Tested In Edo State.

By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – According to the Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Patrick Okundia, the state government had accelerated efforts geared towards checking the spread of COVID-19 and improving the general health conditions of the residents of the state through intensified Active Case Search (ACS) activities across the 911 communities in Edo, and the testing of over 5771 residents, alongside the decontamination of homes and offices, following the confirmation of 797 cases of the virus in the state.

The Commissioner disclosed this during a media chat in Benin City, the state capital, pointing out that there was decreased adherence in the state to safety measures prescribed by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 (PTF) and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) such as social distancing, wearing of face masks, regular washing of hands and use of hand sanitisers, which were necessary precautions for the containment of the burgeoning spread of the deadly virus.

Edo State has so far recorded 797 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 5559 suspected cases, 2379 line-listed contacts, 346 persons of interest (POIs) and 32 COVID-related deaths, while 243 patients have been discharged, having recovered from the disease.
