Edo Guber Poll: Power of Incumbency Won’t Favour You, Yahaya Bello Tells Obaseki

By Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Following his defection from the All Progressives Congress(APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, has been told that his power of incumbency notwithstanding, he had no guarantee of winning the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State.

This was the view of Kogi state Governor, Yahaya Bello, during a chat with State House correspondents, following a closed door meeting between the new Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, and Governors of the North Central zone of the country, in Abuja on Monday.

To further buttress his point, Bello alluded to instances in the past where incumbents were unseated, mentioning the electoral toppling of former President Goodluck Jonathan of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), by President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), during the 2015 Presidential Election, adding that Obaseki was going to suffer the same fate at the September 19, 2020 Gubernatirial Election in Edo State.

Despite expressing his regrets over Obasek’s defection from the party, Bello, nonetheless intoned that the APC was bent on taking back its governorship diadem from Obaseki, the incumbent.
