By Lilian Ogbonna (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Following his insistence to continue carrying on as the Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), despite the National Working Committee’s (NWC) preference for Abiola Ajimobi, coupled with accusations of causing the party “irredeemable disrepute” through “numerous infractions of the party constitution and conduct”, Victor Giadom has been suspended by the party and replaced as a member of the NWC by Worgu Boms, a former attorney-general of Rivers State.
Contrary to the choice of the party’s NWC, which had earlier chosen former Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi to act as interim National Chairman, following an Appeal Court affirmation of a High Court ruling suspending Adams Oshiomhole as the party’s National Chairman, Giadom, a former Deputy National Secretary of the APC declared himself the authentic Acting National Chairman of the party.
Giadom backed up his claim by citing a High Court request in March 2020, directing him to act in the stead of the party’s national Chairman, following Oshiomhole’s earlier suspension, which was reactivated with the recent Appeal court ruling.
However, the APC cited his resignation in 2019 to run for the position of Rivers State Deputy Governor as proof that he was no longer a member of the NWC, having not been readmitted after his return to the party’s national secretariat from his election adventure.
The APC’s Acting Nationl Chairman, as chosen by the NWC, is Hilliard Etta, who is acting in the stead of former Oyo governor, Abiola Ajimobi, who has not been able to resume duty due to illness associated with COVID-19.
