APC Has Not Approved A Date For Edo Primary Election, Gaidom Tells INEC

By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Victor Gaidom, factional acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has informed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the party had not approved any date for the governorship primary election in Edo State, asking the commission to ignore the ongoing exercise in the state.

Gaidom made the disclosure via a letter dated June 18, 2020, addressed to Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC Chairman, in which he urged the electoral referee to disregard the planned direct primary election to be conducted by a committee headed Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, saying that he did not, as the APC’s acting Chairman, constitute or authorize such a committee.

According to Gaidom, the exercise which was supposed to hold on June 22, 2020, had been postponed, saying that a copy of the letter had been dispatched to security agencies and the recognized APC Chairman in the state, Anslem Ojezue, adding that INEC would be informed of the new date for the primary election.
