COVID-19: We Did Not Send Positive Test Kits To Cross Rivers – NCDC

By Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Following allegations that it supplied positive test kits to Cross Rivers State, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has come out to debunk the accusations, stating that the agency’s accusers lacked knowledge of its testing strategies.

The NCDC made this rebuttal via a statement on Saturday, June 20, 2020, in which it said that the Cross Rivers State Government officials were ignorant of the Federal Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 testing strategy and efforts to protect the health of Nigerians from the disease, adding that it was the agency’s responsibility to protect the health of all Nigerians.

The NCDC said that as part of its national strategy to curtail the further spread of the virus, it had been ramping up its testing capacity, calling on Nigerians to stay alert to the threat posed to their lives by the virus, even as the agency continues to seek for more effective measures to keep them safe.

Asu Okang and Beta Edu, Rivers State Commissioners for Information and Health, had accused the Federal Ministry of Health and the NCDC of purposefully sending positive COVID-19 samples to the state.
