By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The seat of the Deputy National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Victor Giadom, is vacant, according to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
This was contained in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Lanre Issa-Onilu, following a meeting of the party’s NWC at the Party’s National Secretariat on Wednesday, where Sen. Abiola Ajimobi was affirmed as the Party’s Acting National Chairman, following the Appeal Court’s ruling upholding the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as National Chairman of the party.
According to the NWC, Giadom had ceased to be an officer of the party since 2018, having resigned to serve as the Deputy Governorship candidate of the APC in Rivers State. He returned to the APC for the 2019 poll, and to the office at the National Secretariat without a fresh nomination by the South-South Zone of the party.
Giadom, according to the National Secretary of the party, had ceased to function as a national officer since 2018, by virtue of the provision of Article 31(iii), which reads: “Any party office holder interested in contesting for an elective office(whether party office or office in a general election) shall resign and leave office 30 days prior to the date of nomination or party primary for the office he or she is seeking to contest.”
Victor Gadom, Deputy National Secretary of the APC had declared himself National Chairman of the party, citing an earlier High Court order directing him to assume the position, consequent to Oshiomhole’s initial suspension by the court, which, according to him could not be immediately effected, following the stay of order obtained by Oshhiomole, but which had been restored following ratification of Oshiomhole’s suspension by the Appeal Court in Abuja, on Tuesday, June 16, 2020.
