By Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Despite the confirmation of the Deputy National Chairman, South-South Region, Abiola Ajimobi, as the interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), by the party’s national leadership, following the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole by an Abuja Appeal Court, the National Secretary of the party, Mr Victor Giadom, has announced that he was assuming office as ‘acting national chairman’ of the party, following up his announcement with an order for a fresh round of screening for contestants vying for the party’s governorship ticket, including the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki.
According to Gaidom, he was assuming his position as the party’s acting National Chairman based on an earlier order by a Federal High Court, which had in March 16, 2020, ordered him to act as interim Chairman of the APC, following Oshiomhole’s suspension, adding that he could not immediately assume leadership of the party because of the temporary reprieve granted Oshiomhole by the Appeal Court, the removal of which automatically makes him the acting Chairman of the party, in compliance with the earlier court order.
Giadom said that in his acting capacity as the APC’s National Chairman, his first line of action was to order the cancellation of the recently held screening of prospective APC gubernatorial candidates in Edo State and ordering a fresh screening of all previously screened candidates, including Godwin Obaseki and co, saying that the suspended National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole had erred by being a judge in a matter in which he had interests.
Meanwhile, the Deputy National Chairman of the APC, South, Abiola Ajimobi, has been confirmed as the interim National Chairman of the party, by the National Working Committee, in line with provisions of Section 14.2. (iii), of the APC constitution, which states that, the Deputy National Chairman, North/South ‘Shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone.
