(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Aston Villa will demand at least £80million for Jack Grealish during the transfer window and have not given up hope of keeping their captain if they avoid the drop.
Grealish is high on Manchester United’s list of targets thanks to his excellent form this season, with seven goals and six assists in the Premier League to keep Villa in the hunt for survival. Although United admire Grealish, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has warned that it is unrealistic to think transfer fees will remain as high as before following the coronavirus pandemic.
Woodward was referring specifically to the £200m it would take for United to prise Harry Kane away from Tottenham or the £100m Borussia Dortmund want for Jadon Sancho, but he would also expect Grealish’s valuation to come down as well.
However, United eventually agreed to pay £80m for Maguire – a world-record fee for a defender – when Leicester City stood strong last summer, and Villa will be hopeful of getting the maximum price for Grealish if a similar scenario develops when the transfer window re-opens.
