By Lilian Ogbonna (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – 24 hours after the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) carpeted the Buhari Administration for its failure to tackle the high rate of insecurity in the north, the presidency has chided Nigerians for unjustly accusing the President of laxity in his handling of the mounting security challenges in the country.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, disclosed this while speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s live interview segment, Politics Today, monitored by Agendawatchdog, on Monday, June 15, 2020.
According to Adesina, it is was incorrect and unfair to deny Buhari credit for his achievements in the security sector, even in the face of formidable challenges, adding that the country’s security was a work in progress.
Adesina said that operational issues as they concerned tackling security issues such as cattle rustling, terrorism, banditry and others, were the preserve of security agencies, which are also emboldened with the task of reviewing their strategic approaches, as and when necessary, and give feedback to the president in the form of regular security briefs.
The NEF had in a statement by its Convener, Ango Abdullahi, accused the Buhari administration of having done little to check the escalating state of insecurity in the north, in the wake of fresh waves of attacks by bandits and Boko Haram insurgents, which have resulted in the mass loss of lives and property.
