WTO Acknowledges Nigeria’s Nomination Of Okonjo-Iweala


By Franca Joseph (Agendawatchdog) – Nigeria’s nomination of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala for the position of the World Trade Organisation’s Director-General, has been acknowledged by the world body. This folowed reports in the media that President Muhammadu Buhari had forwarded the name of the former Finance Minister to WTO for the position of its Director-General.

Dr, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is a seasoned economist and globally recognized development expert with years of cognate experience in global financial management. She currently sits on the boards of giant multinational organizations such as Standard Chartered Bank, Twitter, Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, and the African Risk Capacity.

Rivaling Okonjo-Iweala for the WTO tiara are other seasoned global financial technocrats such as Mr. Jesús Seade Kuri of Mexico and Mr. Abdel-Hamid Mamdouh of Egypt.

The incumbent WTO Director-General, Mr. Roberto Azevêdo, has hinted that he would be stepping down in August 31, 2020.
