After Six Months In Jail, Orji Kalu Returns To Senate


By Lilian Ogbonna (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Senator Orji Uzor Kalu,  former Governor of Abia State and Chief Whip of the Senate, made a sensational return to the Senate, following his release from Kuje Correctional Centre where he was serving a 12-year term, consequent to his conviction for fraud by a High Court for allegedly embezzling N7.65 billion belonging to the Abia State Government.  

Senator Kalu, who resumed work at the National Asssembly on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, had spent six months in jail, prior to his release onJune 2, 2020, on the orders of a Federal High Court, following a Supreme Court judgment that ruled that Justice Idris Mohammed, who headed the court that convicted him lacked jurisdiction.

The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District , while addressing the press, on his way to the Senate Chamber, expressed joy at being back to work, saying he was rearing to resume work in order to make up for lost time
