Governor Okezie Ikpeazu Of Abia State Is COVID-19 Positive, Goes Into Isolation

By Lilian Ogbonna (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Commissioner for Information, Abia State, John Kalu, in a statement, on Monday, June 8, 2020, disclosed that Okezie Ikpeazu, the Abia State Governor, had tested positive for COVID-19, and had moved into isolation, as mandated by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

According to the statement, Governor Ikpeazu, who had directed members of the State Executive Council (EXCO) and the inter-ministerial committee on COVID-19 to go for COVID-19 testing, had led by example by sending his own sample on May 30, 2020, with the first result returning negative, while the result of another test conducted on June 4, 2020, returned positive.

Kalu said that the Governor had ordered his Deputy, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, to act in his stead, pending his full recovery and resumption of duties as the Chief Executive Officer of the state, urging Abians to complement the efforts of the state government in the war on COVID-19 by adhering strictly to NCDC preventive protocols and guidelines such as social distancing, regular hand washing, use of alcohol based sanitizers, and staying at home when necessary.
