Edo APC Guber Congress: Obaseki, Ize-Iyamu, Four Others Set For Screening

By Franca Joseph – (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The All Progressives Congress’ (APC) National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, has announced that Six governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are set to be screened for the party’s forthcoming primary election to elect its governorship flag bearer in Edo State.

Issa-Onilu made this disclosure via a statement on Friday, June 5, 2020, in which he said that the Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Dr Pius Odubu, Chris Ogiemwonyi, Osaro Obazee, and Matthew Iduoriyekemwen had bought, completed and submitted the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms, adding that the party was leaning on some recent unhealthy experiences to ensure that due diligence and transparency guided the screening exercise.

According to Issa-Onilu, the APC was committed to transparency in the screening process, which informed its decision to make all information and documents submitted by the governorship aspirants available to its members and the public for verification of claims, a move that was meant to supply the screening panel with vital data or any complaint to the claims contained in the submission by the aspirants, adding that the APC had released its schedule of activities for the conduct of the 2020 governorship primary elections in Edo State, which was in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines.

The APC spokesman added that between May 20 and June 2, 2020, the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms took place at the APC National Secretariat, and that the last day for submission of completed forms and accompanying documents was June 3, and publication of claims and objections would end on Tuesday next week before the screening of the aspirants on Wednesday and Thursday next week, which will be followed by Screening Appeal on June 12 before the primary election and election appeal scheduled for June 22 and 24, respectively.
