Ondo,Edo Polls: Falana Calls For Maximum Security To Prevent Violence

Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Ahead of the September 19 Governorship Polls in Edo and Ondo States, Human Rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has called for maximum security in both states. The human rights crusader made the call during the Citizens’ Townhall on Voting Amidst COVID-19, on Wednesday, June3, 2020.

Falana premised his call for tighter security during the pools in both Edo and Ondo states on the fact that the variables in the local council polls in Cross River and Benue States, where the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) cleared all the seats, are different from the the ones in the September 19 Elections, which would involve opposition parties slugging it out for the diadems on offer.

According to Falana, his call is timely due to the need to deescalate tensions ahead the commencement of campaigns. He also used the occasion to ask the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to make Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) available for voters on polling day due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
