Abuja High Court Dismisses FG’s Suit Against Dino Melaye

By Franca Joseph (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Senator Dino Melaye was discharged  by an Abuja High Court, on Tuesday, May 2, 2020, of charges filed against him by the Federal Government over an allegation of false information, on the grounds that the prosecuting counsel failed to establish a prima facie case against him.

Melaye had pleaded “not guilty” to the allegation that he had released misleading information to the police, in April, 2017, with the aim of incriminating the erstwhile Chief of Staff to the Kogi State Governor, Mr Edward Onoja, as the brain behind a plot to kill him, coupled with a telephone conversation he was said to have had with one Mohammed Abubakar.

Justice Olasumbo Goodluck, after analysing the case on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, following a no-case submission filed before the court, ruled that there was no evidence that Senator Melaye released misleading information to the police or any public servant, pointing out that that the prosecution counsel failed to establish a prima facie case against the defendant.
