By Bonita Onyeka (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Federal Government has been urged by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), to put the necessary machinery in place to secure the release of the Chairman of its Nasarawa State Chapter, Bishop Joseph Masin, who was abducted on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, from his residential quarters by gunmen, who are demanding a N20m ransom for his release.
According to CAN’s statement by its Secretary, Barrister Joseph Bade Daramola, the body’s call on the Federal and the Nasarawa State Government to initiate the processes for securing the immediate release of Bishop Masin was meant to avoid a worst case scenario, and also because it had no law enforcement unit of its own to secure Masin’s release, coupled with its respect for constituted authority.
CAN also demanded the following from the federal government: The immediate release of Bishop Joseph Masin from his captors; the immediate release of Leah Sharibu and all Nigerians in the captivity of terrorists and kidnappers; the immediate and permanent end of the ongoing genocide in Southern Kaduna and other states in the country where similar detestable crimes are ongoing.
