‘Your Accusations Are Hollow”, AFDB Chief Slams Whistle-blowers Over Corruption Allegations

Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Akinwumi Adesina , the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has, in a press statement, rebuffed corruption allegations against him, promising to continue working with the bank’s shareholders, despite attempts by some individuals to tarnish his image.

In what he termed an attempt by some individuals to muddy his image, as well as the glowing reputation of the AFDB, Adesina said he was confident that the bank’s ongoing inquiries will prove that he has not violated the Code of Ethics of the AFDB and exonerate him from the trumped-up charges of his accusers.

Adesina, who is a former Nigerian Minister of Agriculture, and the first Nigerian to head the AFDB, one of the world’s largest multilateral development banks, referred to Kofi Annan and Nelson Mandela as “heroes from whom he had learnt that pain was a catalyst for growth.

Akinwumi Adesina, who is bidding for a second term as the AFDB’s chief has been accused of embezzlement and cronyism by whistle-blowers, which has led to the United States making calls for an independent inquiry into the allegations against the Nigerian whose country is the biggest shareholder in the bank, with nine per cent.
