Almajiri System Of Education Formally Banned By The Kano State Government

Lilian Ogbonna (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The controversial Almajiri system of Education has been formally banned by the Kano State Government, following completion of plans by the state government to formally register all returnee Almajiri from other states in the formal educational system.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who made the disclosure at a COVID-19 media briefing, confirmed that over 1000 Almajirai have so far been received by Kano State from other northern states. The governor said that repatriation of Almajiris from Kano State to other states in the north was ongoing.

Ganduje urged the citizens of kano State to continue observing all safety protocols prescribed by government and health authorities in order to help stem the further spread of the deadly virus, adding that there were encouraging signs that the rate of infections was reducing considerably.
