We Will Jail, Fine Parents, Islamic Clerics Who Enroll Children Into Almajiri System – El-Rufai

Olivia Isibor (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Parents or Islamic scholars who enroll children into the Almajiri system of education will be prosecuted and jailed for two years at the least  or made to pay fines of N100,000 or N200,000 per child, according to the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufa’I, who added that every child in the state must be enrolled in the formal system of education.

The governor gave this warning during a visit to 200 Almajiri children relocated from Nasarawa State who were undergoing rehabilitation and optical screening at Government College, Kurmin Mashi in the state.

While emphasizing that the Almajiri system of education had been proscribed in the state, the governor said that the major aim of the state government was to provide opportunities for all children in the state in order for them to become useful to themselves, families and the society at large, adding that the state would continue to welcome, rehabilitate and educate all returnee Almajiris.

El-Rufai condemned the Almajiri system of education which he termed an “abuse of the privilege and future of a child”
