Amid COVID-19, South East Governors Call On Igbos To Remain Safe

Lilian Ogbonna (AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The South East Governors Forum have called on Igbos across the country to stay safe by obeying all directives by governments at all levels and health authorities meant to stem the further spread of COVID-19. Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi, Chairman of the forum, gave the charge on behalf of the group at the end of a meeting in Enugu, on Sunday, May 24, 2020.

According to the governors, arrangements were being made with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to ramp up COVID-19 testing in the South-East region. While lauding President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of Works and the Governor of Anambra, Willie Obiano, for their commitment to the completion of the Second Niger Bridge, Umahi revealed that a committees would be established at the various states to collaborate with Federal Government, World Bank, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) on strengthening the zone’s economic base.

Some notable personalities who attended the meeting include: Governors of Imo, Hope Uzodinma and Enugu State, Gov Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Ude Oko-Chukwu, and Anambra State Governor, represented by his deputy, Mr Nkem Okeke, Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty Nnaemeka Achebe, Ohanaeze President General, Nnia Nwodo and some traditional and religious leaders
