(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – COVID-19 efforts in Bayelsa State received further boost as Gloria Diri Foundation, a non-governmental organization of the wife of the Bayelsa state governor, Mrs Gloria Diri, distributed food items, hand sanitizers and other preventive items to the people of Igbedi community in Kolokuma/Opokuma local government of the state.
According to Mrs Diri, who was represented by the coordinator of the Foundation, Bodisere Yibowei, the exercise became expedient following the mass deaths so far recorded from the pandemic globally, as she seized the occasion to enlighten the people about the pandemic and the need to stay safe while efforts continue on several fronts to find solutions to it.
Mrs. Diri said that the Bayelsa State Government was aware of the ravaging effects the virus has had on the people’s lives and livelihoods, especially the poor and vulnerable, hence the gamut of efforts that have so far been expended towards checking the rate of infections, along with the provision of palliatives for the needy, advising them of the need to obey the guidelines put in place by government and health authorities such as social distancing, wearing of face masks, washing of hands, use of sanitizers etc, which are meant to stem the further spread of the virus.
The Amananowei of Igbedi town, His Royal Highness, Chief Sam Pitas Gbaranbiri lauded the kind gesture of the Gloria Diri Foundation for bringing succor to the lives of the people, adding that the gift items would go a long way in helping alleviate the sordid conditions of the needy in the community.
