(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged by his party, the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to ignore the call by the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers to check the activities of the Joint Taskforce on the movement of Agricultural Products and foodstuffs, constituted by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu in Rivers State.
David Okumgba, the South-South Zonal Secretary of APC, made the party’s position on the matter known via a statement in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. Okumagba urged President Buhari to disregard what he called the “cry of the wolf” that would only end up plunging “Rivers indigenes and residents into further economic hardship and psychological trauma”. Okumagba expressed shock at the increasing involvement of traditional rulers, who were obviously doing the biding of Governor Nyesom Wike, in the politics of the state, adding that, the taskforce, which was set up to ensure that the state did not suffer food shortages, should be allowed to continue doing the commendable job it had been doing since inception.
The Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers had on Saturday. May 16, 2020, asked President Muhammadu Buhari, to repeal the order on the movement of agricultural produce, livestock, goods and services in Rivers State by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu
