(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Liu Dengfeng, a supervisor with China’s National Health Commission, has revealed that China destroyed early samples of COVID-19. According to Liu, ‘the Chinese government issued an order on January 3 to dispose of coronavirus samples’ at unauthorized laboratories.
However, Liu denied that the destruction of the samples was part of a cover-up, pointing out that that the exercise was meant to ‘prevent risk to laboratory biological safety and prevent secondary disasters caused by unidentified pathogens.’ He added that the labs were ‘unauthorized’ to handle such samples, and they had to be terminated in order to comply with Chinese public health laws. Liu did not specify how many labs destroyed coronavirus samples.
China’s latest revelation seems to confirm recent accusations by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that the Chinese were not being transparent about the outbreak and spread of the virus by refusing to share information about the virus sample from inside China with the global scientific society, reporting the outbreak late to the World Health Organization and close censorship of anybody that tried to alert the outside world about the disease.
