HIV Infections May Increase, Due To COVID-19 Lockdowns – Health Experts

By Amechi Idumuebor, For Agenda Watchdog, May 12, 2020

(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – COVID-19 lockdowns, despite their merits, might inadvertently spike an explosion in the number of HIV infections, according to health experts in the United States.

The fears of these health professionals are borne out of the fact that tests for sexually transmitted diseases have dipped significantly since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, alongside the fact that most people are no longer taking their protective medications against HIV and accessing treatment because most pharmaceutical shops are closed. This portends serious health risks for most sexually active individuals who might be oblivious of their health statuses.

According to the report, the full effect of the COVID-19 induced lockdowns on HIV transmission might not be acknowledged until next year, when 2020 infections would be published by the United States Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention publishes its statistics.
