(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – “Artemisia annua”, the plant extract in Madagascar’s COVID-19 cure also grows on Nigerian soil, according to Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehenire.
The Minister made the disclosure during the routine briefing session of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja on Monday, May 11, 2020, adding that efforts were being made to get a sample of the plant in Madagascar for comparison with the one that grows in Nigeria.
According to Ehanire, the sample, when procured, would be given to the research community in Nigeria for analysis to see how it could be put to effective use in the treatment of COVID-19 in the country, adding that Nigeria, like other countries in the world afflicted with the virus, was also searching for effective cures for the deadly disease.
President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the importation of Nigeria’s share of the Madagascar cure from Guinea-Bissau, according to the Chairman of the PTF, Boss Mustapha.
