By Olivia Isibor, For Agenda Watchdog, May 9, 2020

(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – In reaction to claims by some local scientists and traditional herbal medicine practitioners that they had discovered potent cures for the novel coronavirus disease, the Federal Government has stated that certain guidelines are usually followed before drugs are approved for use in the treatment of diseases.

This view was expressed by the Minister of State for Health, Olorunnimbe Mamora, while making his remarks during a routine briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja,on Friday, May 8, 2020.

According to the minister, a round-table discussion was being planned with local scientists and herbal medical practitioners in the country who claim to have found cures for the dreaded virus,  adding that all claims would be verified by  the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), following which such drugs would go through clinical trials, involving volunteer COVID-19 patients, to ascertain whether or not they are fit for human consumption.
