(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Consequent to the spike in the cases of COVID-19 infections in Kano State, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) is focusing its attention on helping out with the dire situation on the ground in the state.
NCDC Director-General, Chikwe Ihekweazu, disclosed this while making his remarks at the routine briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja, on Monday, May 4, 2020.
While the agency was not abandoning other parts of the country with equally high cases of the virus, the DG said the emphasis on Kano was due to the accelerating dimension of infections in the state, what he refers to as “emerging issue in Kano.”
Kano State is the second most populated state in Nigeria, after Lagos State. Despite recently joining the list of States in the country with cases of COVId-19, it has witnessed a frightening upsurge in the spread of the deadly virus. The state currently has 342 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infections, with 6 fatalities.
