By Amechi Idumuebor, For Agenda Watchdog, April 29, 2020

(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – As part of its support for Nigeria’s #COVID-19 efforts, Germany, Europe’s economic powerhouse, has approved the sum of €22.4 million (N8.9bn) for Nigeria, in form of debt relief.

According to the German Government, the gesture to Nigeria was part of its wider support for the war efforts against the virus globally and the European Union’s support for partner countries in Africa to the tune of  €3.25 billion (N1.3 trillion).

Germany has pledged €300 million (N120bn) to the United Nations Global Humanitarian Response against #COVID-19, and €12 million (N4.8bn) in support of the West Africa Health Organisation, the health arm of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
