(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s former finance minister, and former Managing Director of the World Bank, recently added another feather to her bulging cap with her appointment by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as its Special Envoy for Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, a global partnership geared towards fast-tracking the development, manufacture, and distribution of #Coronavirus drugs, tests kits, and vaccines.

The announcement was made during the inauguration of ACT, by WHO’s Director-General, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, from Geneva, Switzerland, via webinar.

In the DG’s words, “I would especially like to thank Sir Andrew Witty and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for agreeing to act as Special Envoys for the ACT Accelerator”. Dr. Okonjo-Iweala will serve in similar capacity with English business man, Sir Andrew Witty.  They are to help rally global commitment to the ongoing war on #COVID-19.

Prior to her most recent appointment Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a revered international economist and development guru, was already serving as a member of  South Africa’s Economic Advisory Council, member of the International Monitoring Fund’s (IMF’s) External Advisory Group,  and one of the four Special Envoys the African Union (AU); appointments that came within two months.
