ECOWAS Leaders Appoint Buhari COVID-19 Response Champion

(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, has been appointed Champion of the COVID-19 Response by the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), at the Extraordinary ECOWAS Summit on COVID-19 held via teleconferencing. Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Buhari, Mr.Femi Adesina, announced this via a statement on Thursday, April 23, 2020.

According to the statement, President Buhari challenged West African leaders not to dwell on the present challenges posed by COVID-19, but to identify and cease the several opportunities for growth and development presented by the pandemic. He called for closer collaboration among the members of the sub-regional organization through the exchange of ideas as that was the most effective way the virus could be defeated.
