(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Nigeria’s Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, has vehemently repudiated insinuations in some quarters that the COVID-19 palliatives meant for Abuja residents were being distributed to supporters of the ruling All progressives Congress (APC) in the FCT. Speaking on Channels Television, the minister described the insinuations as products of the imaginations of some persons who were ignorant of the distribution procedures for the palliatives.
Aliyu added that the purpose of the palliatives was to ease the hardship ALL Nigerians, regardless of party affiliations, were passing through, consequent to the lockdown imposed in some sections of the country by President Buhari which was meant to check the further spread of the deadly COVID-19 in the country.
As proof of the transparency in the distribution process, the minister said that government was making use of volunteers and representatives from non-partisan bodies such as the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), League of Imams, political parties, and civil society groups. The items being distributed to about 600,00 households include 5kg of rice, 3kg of garri, 3kg of groundnut oil, et al.
