(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – In reaction to the ire of Nigerians at the manner social distancing was completely disregarded at the funeral of the late Chief of Staff to President Buhari, Abba Kyari, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control has come out to reinforce its earlier plea to Nigerians to avoid overcrowding in other to check the further spread of COVID-19. The agency stressed the need for Nigerians to continue complying with instructions contained in its publication “on ensuring safe and dignified burial”, which states that individuals may observe the corpse of a loved one from 2 meters, that the number of mourners be limited and that such ceremonies be conducted in well ventilated structures.
A mammoth crowd had gathered earlier today at the funeral venue of the late Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, in complete defiance of social distancing regulations prescribed by the NCDC as part of measures to curb the continued spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria. Nigerians were irked that most of the top government functionaries at the ceremony who were supposed to be exemplary in their conduct were the ones flouting what government was preaching and even forcefully enforcing in some parts of the country under lockdown.
