We Must Be Original In Our Our Approach, And Desist From Being Copycats – Expert To FG

By Olivia Isibor, For Agenda Watchdog, April 17, 2020

(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – A financial expert, Taiwo Oyedele, advised the Federal Government to be original in the formulation and execution of welfare measures meant to aid the country’s poor and vulnerable, and desist from aping western models. For him, an approach that takes the peculiarities of Nigeria into cognizance was preferable to the Eurocentric measures preferred by the Nigerian Government.

Speaking on a Channels Television interview segment, on Thursday, April 16, 2020, Mr. Oyedele advised the federal government to work in concert with the states and local governments if it hopes to reach the poor and vulnerable whom the palliatives are meant for. He also enjoined the National Assembly to work in tandem with the executive to collectively address the national emergency that COVID-19 had become.

As part of its social investment program, and in its bid to cushion the effects of COVID-19 on Nigeria’s poor and vulnerable, the Federal Government has initiated the disbursed of N20,000 Conditional Cash Transfer to poor households across the country, an exercise that is scheduled to last four months.
