By Amechi Idumuebor, For Agenda Watchdog, April 16, 2020

(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, read the riot act to Nigerians when he informed them that all the country’s 36 states would record cases of the novel COVID-19 in the long run. He disclosed this on Thursday, April 16, 2020, during an interview segment on Channels Television. In his words, “It (coronavirus) will grow to every state in Nigeria. There is no reason why it won’t – it is a respiratory virus”.

Dr. Ihekweazu said that all hands were on deck to improve the testing, detection and isolation capacity of the country in order to stem the continued spread of the deadly disease and help restore the country’s stalled economic life.

Only 19 out of Nigeria’s 36 states, including the FCT have so far recorded cases of the novel COVID-19. The 407 cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria are distributed across the affected 19 states as follows: Lagos – 232, FCT – 58, Osun – 20, Kano – 16, Edo – 15, Oyo – 11, Ogun – 9, Katsina – 7, Bauchi – 6, Kaduna – 6, Akwa Ibom – 6, Kwara – 4, Delta – 4, Ondo – 3, Enugu – 2, Ekiti – 2, Rivers – 2, Niger – 2, Benue – 1, Anambra. While 128 have recovered, having tested negative, 12 deaths have been recorded so far.
