(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – In efforts to increase its capacity in the war on COVID-19, the Federal Government of Nigeria is reportedly in talks with Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing Company and other local automobile manufacturers on how to manufacture ventilators locally.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo in Abuja during a media chat on the implications of the #COVIDー19 pandemic on Nigeria’s manufacturing sector. According to Adebayo, the federal government had received proposals from Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company and other automobile manufacturing companies in Nigeria to produce ventilators and related medical equipment for the country in its war on the deadly virus.
The minister’s speech read in part: “We are also engaging our indigenous car manufacturers at this time to prepare them to tweak their operations to begin the manufacture of ‘Made in Nigeria’ ventilators – critical medical equipment in the fight against the virus,”
In the wake of the rising cases of COVID-19 infections in Nigeria, Nigerians have been inundating the federal government with calls to support indigenous automobile manufacturers with funds to enable them mass produce ventilators and other crucial medical equipment required by medical personnel to effectively prosecute the war on COVID-19.
