No COVID-19 Vaccine Yet – NCDC

By Bonita Onyeka, For Agenda Watchdog, April 13, 2020

(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – Director-General of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, has disclosed that no COVID-19 vaccine exists yet, though progress was being made in that regard. He disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to the DG, although some of the trials that had been conducted so far were encouraging, successful human trails had not yet been attempted. He advised Nigerians against self-medication, due to the attendant risks it posed to the health of those who indulged in it. He added that early report of symptoms could be helpful in the provision of “supportive care” by health professionals for those infected by the virus, especially the ones with primary ailments, as COVID-19 had no specific form of treatment. He promised to keep Nigerians informed on developments on the ongoing search for a COVID-19 vaccine.
