COVID-19: BAuchi Gov Defies Social Distancing, Attends Jumat Service

By Amechi Idumuebor, April 11, 2020

(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The social distancing mantra which has been employed by the Nigerian government and health authorities as one of its key strategies for checking the continued spread of  COVID-19 suffered a major blow as  Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, attended Jumat prayers on Friday, at the Bauchi Central Mosque, located on the premises of the Emir’s palace, in the company of senior members of his administration. Governor Mohammed, who recently came out of his 14-days isolation, having tested positive to the dreaded coronavirus, was appearing for the first time in public since going into quarantine. It was observed that social distancing was not observed as the mosque had a teeming crowd of worshippers in attendance, and that apart from the governor and his aides who had face masks on, majority of fellow worshipper were unprotected.  Bauchi State has six confirmed cases of COVID-19, a deadly disease that has infected over a million people, and killed over a hundred thousand globally.
