COVID-19: Lai Mohammed Decries Frictions Between FG And Some States

By Amechi Idumuebor – April 10, 2020

(AGENDAWATCHDOG) – The Minister for Information, Mr Lai Mohammed, on Friday, April 10, 2020, called on states in the country to eschew political considerations from their campaigns against COVID-19 and collaborate fully with the federal government in order to collectively win the war on the monstrous virus. The minister spoke while giving progress report on the activities of the Presidentail Task Force for the Control of COVID-19 in the country. The minister, who is also a member of the task force, pointed out that continued frictions between some states and the federal government would scupper, rather than help create synergy, in efforts geared towards defeating the menace posed to the lives of Nigerians by the virus. Mr. Lai Mohammed’s plea was informed by the seeming conflicts of interest between the federal government and some states concerning the most appropriate approach to the war on the coronavirus pandemic. Ondo, Rivers, Ebonyi, Kogi, Katsina, Bayelsa are among some states in the federation that have partially relaxed restriction orders on movement of persons, goods and services ahead of Easter celebrations in a country where the rampaging virus has spread to 17 states with 288 confirmed cases, 51 recoveries and 7 deaths
