Human rights lawyer cum activist, Femi Falana (SAN), has implored the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Hon. Justice I.T. Muhammad to suspend his decision to put a hold on court sittings till further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic, suggesting that judges could actually hear applications by using communications tools such as Skype or Zoom. In his view, re-opening the courts would enable thousands of Nigerians with pending legal matters – awaiting trial or under investigation – have access to justice. His request was contained in a letter titled, “Request To Re-Open Courts To Attend To Bail Applications And Fundamental Rights Applications”.
