Trump Attack: Buhari Joins Other African Leaders In Supporting WHO Chief


In reaction to the verbal attack launched by President Donald Trump of the United States of America on the World Health Organisaton (WHO) and its Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, whom he blames for the escalation of the COVID-19 crisis, Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari joined some African leaders in throwing their weight behind the world body. President Trump had threatened to suspend the United State’s contributions to WHO for its supposed pro-China tilt and failure to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Other African leaders who joined Buhari in rallying support for the global health institution include Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Moussa Faki Mahama, Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde, President of Namibia Hage G. Geingob, and Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame.
