Adherence to the sit-at-home order by the Federal Government has been cited as major reason why, compared to other countries battling the COVID-19 pandemic, Nigeria has lower figures.
This is the view of the Lagos State government as stated by the state Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, at a news briefing on Monday, April 6, 2020.
According to the Commissioner, the low figures recorded indicated that the strategies adopted and being implemented by the State government were yeilding the desired results.
However, while commending Lagosians for complying with the Federal Government’s restriction order, he frowned at some individuals who despite the well-intentioned advice of health workers, blatantly flouted the principle of social distancing and other safety measures put in place by government to stem the further spread of the dreaded virus.
The Commissioner pointed out that adherence to the restriction order had helped in contact tracing of suspected cases and also enabled health workers to respond swiftly in locating infected people within the State
The Commissioner revealed that adequate stock of Personal Protection Equipment exists to manage cases and the Infectious Disease Hospital has 60% of its isolation bed-space available.
