The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr.Boss Mustapha has described the novel Coronavirus as deadlier than Boko Haram, the Islamist terror group engaged in a war of attrition with Nigerian military forces in the North-East, and other violent groups operating in the country.
Mustapha said this while on a visit to Garkida, Adamawa State to commensurate with the victims of the recent Boko Haram attacks.
In his words: “I took the opportunity to speak to them on the current challenge that we are having with regards to COVID-19 and I said as dreaded as Boko Haram is, COVID-19 is vicious and most-dreaded (deadlier).
“One infection of COVID-19 can destroy a whole city, so I implore all of you to begin to speak to the people of Adamawa State and Nigerians concerning the adversity that can face us if we don’t take precaution,”.
The SGF used the opportunity to add that the Nigerian government, contrary to widespread belief, had taken proactive steps in anticipation of the possibility of the virus arriving the country’s shores.
“We are not acting a little late, we took steps by first identifying the countries that are a heavy burden; first we started with 13, and the next day we added two, along with the closure of three international airports.”
Boss Mustapha further implored the people the people to take personal steps towards warding off the virus such as adopting the practice of social distancing, handwashing and other high hygienic standards.
He shared President Muhammadu Buhari’s pains following the recent attacks by Boko Haram which resulted in the death of security personnel and loss of valuable property.
