COVID-19: Plans Are Ongoing To Build More Isolation Centres – Ehanire

Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Nigeria’s Minister of Health has disclosed that Nigeria was making concrete plans to construct more isolation centers in its bid to contain the rampaging COVID-19.

The minister made the disclosure during a press parley on Friday March 20, 2020.

He pointed out that even the most developed countries of the world were making last-ditch efforts to construct more isolation centers to accommodate the growing cases of infections.

In his words: “For covid 19, every country is scrambling to build isolation centres. China built its own in thousand-bed centre in 10 days. That’s them”.

“Every country is scrambling for that  and we are also doing our own part.

“We have our own strategies to increase beds and also to sometimes improvise if need be. There is a standard isolation centre going on in Gwagwadala.

“There is one already in Lagos, a very sound one, which was inherited from the ebola virus epidemic. They are very stable.

“There are other strategies we are immediately working upon to develop isolation centres if the need arises. we are seriously working on those ones including telling our teaching hospitals to immediately make wards available if the need arises.”

According to the minister, most countries of the world, including the developed ones were taken by surprise by the suddenness of the emergence of the virus and its spread, and having absorbed the shock, were trying to adjust to the new realities.
